With the dust settling on the battle between DVD HD videos and Blu Ray HD, and the latter having won the war, it is time to venture into the affordable mass production of Blu Ray discs. The technologies mostly employed for the mass production of CDs and DVDs are nearly very similar to those for Blu-Ray replication and duplication.
Blu-ray replication is quite popular nowadays as there are very many HD movies that require about six times resolution and this can only be achieved with the use of Blu Ray technology. Many production companies such as Lions Gate, Sony, Disney, Warner, Fox, MGM and Paramount have adopted this technology for their movies. These companies are involved in the use of both Blu-ray replication and Blu Ray duplication even though the market seems to dictate that the latter means of production is more expensive in the case of mass production.
Blu Ray duplication is the way to go for when you need your Blu Ray discs to be delivered in a timely fashion. This form of production is suitable for 100 to 10,000 Blu Ray discs. With Blu Ray duplication your discs can be copied to the best of quality standards fast and professionally in as little as 2 days. Blu ray duplication is cheaper for small quantities because it does not entail the licensing and manufacturing costs involved with Blu-ray replication. Blu-ray BD-R, BD-RE and dual layer disks can be made comfortably using Blu ray duplication towers. The duplication tower will see the format in which the original video was created and then proceed to create a rewritable Blu ray disk. Thus, with Blu ray duplication the disk image is burned onto a blank disk. As opposed to Blu-ray replication, with Blu ray duplication you do not have to pay the license fees for AACs i.e. Access Content Systems which are responsible for making the production of movies very expensive.
With Blu-ray replication the production costs are quite low after one has paid for the AAC licence. Blu-ray replication is often defined as the cloning of the master copy. It involves developing a glass image of the content in the master copy and “stamping” it or developing a mould of the original content in another disc. Blu-ray replication is suitable for the production of over 1000 Blu ray discs and where time is not a constraining factor. Most Blu-ray replication processes are automated and thus it is cost effective to manufacture Blu ray discs in high volumes using this technology.
Blu-ray replication produces discs which are resistant to scratches and fingerprint trails. The replication technology in the market is not bound to get outdated soon and so the replacement costs should be a far-fetched cause of worry.
